2019 Layups for Lucy a major success

The sixth annual Layups for Lucy event was a smashing success on Oct. 26 inside the Neshannock High School gymnasium.

Layups for Lucy is a 501(c)(3) created in memory of Lucy Beal to raise money for Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC. The 2019 iteration raised $32,000, which brings the all-time total to $132,000 according to Lucy’s sister, Grace Beal.

Grace is a senior at Neshannock HS who organizes the event each year with her younger sister, Eliza, a sophomore.

This year’s event featured navy blue student t-shirts, white staff t-shirts and pink/purple wristbands for sale.

The staff team was victorious over the student team by one point. Neshannock Township School District digital media coordinator, Beau Berman, hit a free throw to give the staff team a one-point lead over the student team with less than :20 second remaining in the game.

Halftime of the staff vs. student game featured multiple dancing performances including one by two Chick-Fil-A cow mascots.
