For Your Streaming Consideration: HOCUS POCUS

Spooky Season is here, and what better way to celebrate then sitting back, relaxing, and picking a good old Halloween classic. This begs the question though, what is the best Halloween movie. There are many choices to choose from. Whether it is Halloween, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Frakenweenie, there are so many to choose from. But I am here to talk about (in my opinion) the best Halloween movie. What is that movie you ask? Well that movie is none other than, Hocus Pocus.

Hocus Pocus is a Disney family movie that came out 1993. If you don’t know what it’s about this movie is about three kids who live in Salem, Massachusetts.  On Halloween, they break into an old museum. After one of the kids lights a candle, they bring back three witches from the dead, and must save themselves. This movie has been known as a “Cult Classic”, a film that has gained a big fan following even though it might not have been a huge success. (It only ranks a 37% from professional critics on Rotten Tomatoes, which is incredibly low.) 

But, success can come in many forms.  In the movie, it has many.  The cast is amazing, featuring some great talent, mainly from the three witches played by Sarah Jessica Parker, Bette Midler, and Kathy Najimy. The three actresses work fantastically together, and the comedy they produce is pure gold. So many quotable lines in this movie make it so memorable. Plus, since it’s a 90s movie, the nostalgia you feel as you watch it is just so great. This movie makes you feel like you are sucked into 1993, as the setting really screams Halloween. And last but not leas, there is an amazing musical number “I Put a Spell on You”. This song is so catchy, and the performance by Bette Midler in the movie is easily the most memorable part of the entire movie.

In general though, this movie also just captures the fun that is Halloween. Three kids go on a fun adventure, it’s just perfect for this holiday. The move just wants you to sit back, and have a good time, and it excels in that greatly. So, if you are looking for a fun family Halloween movie then look no further,
